These compositions are containers, a window into the thoughts and feelings I had in the process of making each of them. They are a walk through an internal life and landscape, a non-linear thread or line that deviates in twists, turns, breaks and pauses. They are all independent characters that unfold and bring meaning to one another. While coming from different moments and emotions, they grasp the individuality of a time. I equate their purpose with that of a photograph. They hold and capture the atmosphere of a moment, and are something to look back upon in future times.

The pieces are made from clay, textile and color. The ceramic base is the support where the textiles are hold onto and fold around. On the base textile, the compositions are laid and stitched on. Each composition finds its resting point in the middle of the relief, and it is composed by different cut outs of fabric that has been used either in its purest form, or painted with casein or oil pastels. Casein paint has a laborious process being made from scratch and it is applied in fine layers to give a chalky and mat finish. Oil pastels are applied freely as in a sketch.

The works are made from humble materials that go through a transformation. They have a focus on color, shape and texture and the interaction in between. The compositions are made with an instinctive rhythm and the different components create a whole by assembling each individual element into a unity. They don’t contain more than five elements or colors to keep them quiet and calm.

Patricia Perales Garcia (b.1991) grew up in Burgos, a small town in Northern Spain. After studying costume design in Florence, she lived for seven years in London where she developed her artistic practice. Recently Perales Garcia has been based in Denmark, between Copenhagen and Glænø, a small island in south Zealand.
